Unit Three Can-Do Statements

12/13/2016

Hola chicos,

Below you will find a combination of statements that describe many of the skills and language abilities we have developed this unit. Choose five for which you have good evidence (i.e. photos, videos, audio clips, etc.), and describe your progress in your digital portfolio housed in our Google Classroom. Be sure to rely on more than your description of the activity, and include physical (or digital) evidence of your work.

Your portfolio is due with all three units complete this Friday. You may come back to this at home or in your spare time at school (homework club, lunch, library time) to finish this. However, you are responsible for speaking with me if there are any personal barriers to your ability to complete this assignment.

Can-Do Statements:
  • I can recognize words and phrases about health and exercise.
  • I can exchange some information with others about nutrition and healthy diets.
  • I can recognize phrases related to talking about trips.
  • I can recognize phrases related to describing well-being.
  • I can describe some details about natural spas.
  • I can identify several regional terms Spanish speakers use to talk about exercise.
  • I can specify several health benefits of eating quinoa.
  • I can exchange some information with others about popular health beliefs from the Spanish-speaking world.
  • I can talk about things I have done.
  • I can talk about what had happened before another past event.
  • I can make inferences to better understand a text.
  • I can understand a short story in Spanish.
  • I can create an outline or list to organize my ideas before writing a composition.
  • I can pay attention to gist and specific cognates to better understand the complete message of a recorded text.
  • I can understand a short radio program in Spanish.

Hola mis alumnos,

Desafortunadamente, yo estoy participando en otra conferencia. Por eso, ustedes tendrán que completar sus talleres sin mí. Abajo les dejo unas instrucciones importantes:
  1. Each workstation lasts 25 minutes, with 1 additional minute to clean up and transition.
  2. Transition as we normally do: Each section of the class moves together to the next group.
  3. Prepare to submit all workstation materials at the end of class with a self-reflection.

Si tienen una pregunta o duda, mándenme un correo electrónico ([email protected]) o un tuit de Twitter (@JoeyPearson).

Sinceramente,

Joey

Preparación para el altar del Día de Muertos [Class Prep. Work Nov. 1st or 2nd]

10/31/2016

Feliz Día de Hallowe'en!

For your whole-class project tomorrow, each student must bring one object to add to our class altar in celebration of Day of the Dead. Remember that this day is a combination of European and Indigenous traditions, and represents the crossing of Catholic heritage with Aztec and Maya traditions in México. The objects you bring must pertain to the cultural tradition and/or the person who has died.

The class with the most decorated, culturally accurate, and meaningful altar as voted by ten teachers/administrators will win a class treat: donut party and cartoon day Friday with no evaluation. For any questions or concerns, please communicate with me either in person or via email.

For some ideas of artwork or objects to bring in, please check out the following links:
