Hello and welcome to my website and personal blog! As I continue to develop this online space,  I will seek innovate ways to use this tool to connect with my students, families, and colleagues. I am open to your feedback as I work to make this space user-friendly and informative.

I am preparing for my big transition from Washington, D.C. back to my home in Encinitas, California. This move has been inspired by a number of factors:
  • The desire to return to the West Coast
  • The opportunity to work in a high school
  • The hope to be closer to family and friends
  • The excitement of a new adventure
Though I am thrilled to start this new chapter in my life, the transition across country is filled with unknowns. It is also quite costly! As I begin a new teaching position as a high-school Spanish teacher, I am encountering many "start-up" costs of moving into a new school, classroom, and age group (as I have been teaching elementary school Spanish in D.C.). However, this is a dream come true and I have no regrets.

Check back soon for a new post, as I am hoping to post regularly about my move and the next steps in "Joey's Grand Adventure to California!"

Truly yours,

Joey

I am very, very excited by your new website and by your new life in California. I am wholly puzzled as to how you find time for all you do--but am grateful that you do. Thanks for sharing your wisdom. We need to hear it.

Dearest Joey – I am so immensely proud of who you are and know you are making an indelible mark on thousands and thousands as you continue your journey. I adore you and consider myself among those thousands. You are a shining light and a beacon of hope (sorry, that sounds so cliché, but it's so true!). I'm so glad you'll be back in town and we'll get to see you from time to time!! Lots of love, Eva

As I work toward developing the perseverance and drive to achieve my goals, I am reading Grit by Angela Duckworth. My biggest learning so far has been the importance of identifying and defining my inner compass, "...the thing that takes you some time to build, tinnier with, and finally get right, and then that guides you on your long and winding road to where, ultimately, you want to be" (p. 60). I use this compass to set goals, plan my daily actions, and reflect.
