Subjunctive Review

Buenas tardes alumnos,

¡Espero que estén bien! We have worked hard over the past two weeks to dive into the subjuntivo  in Spanish, and I see a lot of growth in your speaking and writing. I am proud of you all! In order to help support your learning, I have attached the following links to virtual learning resources on the subjunctive. Follow these four steps below to review the subjunctive:
  1. Take notes on StudySpanish.com's fabulous intro lesson on the subjunctive by clicking here.
  2. Check your understanding by taking this quiz. Correct all errors that come up.
  3. Take notes on StudySpanish.com's lesson on conjugating in the subjunctive mood by clicking here.
  4. Check your understanding by taking this quiz. Correct all errors that come up.

When done, post any questions, comments, or concerns you have regarding the subjunctive and verbs with emotion. (See my sample comment as an example.)

Hasta mañana,

Profe Pearson

P.S. You will only be able to use your notes from this activity and your interactive notebook on the communication task on Friday.

Is there a time when you don't use "que" in the subjunctive or do you always have to have a que to indicate subjunctive?
One doubt I have is that i will not be able to talk on the fly using the subjunctive.
I am concerned about remembering the the irregular conjugations. I will have to make notecards to study them so i can remember all of them better.

Thank you for your comment! Regarding the use of "que." ojalá does not need qué in order to take you to the subjunctive. I believe that with practice, you will be able to use it just fine. I believe in you! I think making flash cards is a great study tool.

Will we be talking in more detail about the indicative mood. I understand what it means .What i don't understand is why is there the subjunctive and indicative if they can both be used to express the same thing.

They aren't used to express the same thing.

Subjunctive is one will acting upon another, indicative is "normal".

Yes, we can talk about this together. Thanks for the question! Thomas makes a really good point, as well.

I think I have this down rather well.
The only thing I might have trouble with is stem-changing verbs, but other than that I think I'm fine.

One doubt I have is remembering what the yo form changes are to verbs ending in zar, car, and gar. I have also been having trouble remembering that stem changing verb still change in the subjunctive mood.

Those irregulars are tricky. However, with practice they become natural.

I am a bit afraid that I will not always be able to catch the subjunctive on the fly when speaking. Sometimes the Spanish I hear makes perfect sense, and sometimes I am left very much confused (Not often though, quite rare these days actually). Thanks!

So, in class (4th period) you were talking about the difference between "sean" and "son" i dont really understand the difference between the two. I'm also having troubles with irregular verbs.

Hey Daniel,

"Sean" is just the subjunctive version of "son." When I say "sean," I am implying that I want something to be rather than I know something is: "Quiero que sean rojos." Does this help? Just remember that ser is an irregular verb all around!

I am concerned about having to know what verbs are irregular and stem-changers when using the present subjuntive.
